Verona, Italy

Verona’s main attraction is the roman amphitheatre in the heart of the city which was built in the 1st century and is still used for performances today!

When planning a trip to Verona make sure you go in the summer months to catch the Opera. Its a spectacle like nothing on earth, hundreds of cast members on stage at one time, live animals (!!) and surprisingly affordable! For around 20 euros you can sit at the back on the original stone steps / seats, but make sure you pick up padded seats, you can buy them from street sellers around the site, its a long show on those hard steps!

Take a bottle of wine and take away pizza into the theatre at the beginning (get there early to grab a seat as its unreserved at the back) and eat dinner in the amphitheatre. If you like red wine, try the Valpolicella Ripasso, which comes from just north of Verona.

The Giardino Giusti Palace and Gardens is about a 20 minute walk from the city centre. The beautiful gardens have been in Giusti family for centuries. The entrance fee is about 8 euros, you can spend a few hours walking the gardens and the maze, plus there is stunning panoramic view over the city of Verona.

If you are looking for places to eat, head to via Sottoriva, near the river. There a few nice authentic Italian restaurants along this road where you can sit outside under the original stone walkways.

There you have it, in 3 minutes, enjoy!
